My Trip to Wyoming

Paul Butler met me at Denver airport. He looks the perfect cattleman: cowboy hat, boots, Ford pickup with hay in the back.
As I soon found out, he doesn't only look the part he is the most informed cattle person I have ever met. What Paul doesn't know about Beefalo is not worth knowing! the real beefalo man
For 3 days he drove me around to Beefalo herds. We talked genetics and I learnt a lot about Beefalo. If I hadn't been convinced before I would be now!

But now I became a Beefalo addict.

That's what I saw

They come in all colours, depending on the cow and the cattle component of the beefalo (bison calves are orange, when they are born). Bison cow with calfBison cow with calf

The beefalo have very thick coats, inherited from the Bison side, having more hair follicles per square mm than cattle. It makes them resistent against cold and hot weather.

Bison and Beefalo have different gut enzymes and are able to digest roughage and thrive on it.
